One woman’s obsession with becoming a mother turned for the worst when she allegedly killed another woman and took her baby as if it was her own.
According to the New York Times, this past Friday in the Bronx, NY, Ashleigh Wade, 22, was charged with fatally strangling and stabbing 22-year-old Angelikque Sutton who was 9-months pregnant.
Wade had been telling people she was pregnant for months including her landlord, Angela Parris, who says Wade told her she was to give birth on Nov. 16. She even went so far as to say that she had gone to the hospital a few weeks earlier to be treated for placenta previa, a condition in which a placenta partially or fully covers the opening in the mother’s cervix.
Wade also created baby registries and shared pregnancy related posts, such as a sonogram, regularly to social media.
Sources say Wade had known Sutton since they were kids. So I’m sure Friday when Sutton went over to her home she had no idea what she was in for.
“It’s my baby!” Ashleigh Wade allegedly insisted to cops arriving at the blood-soaked scene, where the placenta and umbilical cord from the gutted woman laid on the floor.
Sitting on the stoop with hands covered in blood, Wade told authorities that the baby was hers and then said that she stabbed Sutton out of self-defense. She was then taken into custody and transported to the Elmhurst Center Hospital in Queens Saturday for psychiatric evaluation.
Ms. Wade, 22, was charged on Saturday with murder, criminal possession of a weapon and committing an “abortional act” that caused a woman’s death in connection with the stabbing of Angelikque Sutton, the police said.
Unfortunately Sutton did not survive the the horrific ordeal but miraculously the baby did and is currently in stable condition.
DNA testing revealed a match between Sutton and Patrick Bradley, the child’s father and Sutton’s boyfriend of 8 years.
Sutton had recently just completed a degree in Criminal Justice and was set to marry Bradley the day she died.
A heartwrenching story that definitely sounds like a Lifetime movie. I couldn’t imagine what could bring someone to do something this gruesome. And right before the holidays. My prayers go out to the family and those affected.
