Have you ever been with someone that seems to suck the life out of you on a daily basis? When you are asked, why do you stay you make excuses about it saying things like ‘its complicated’ or ‘the time isn’t right’.
Before you go off on a tangent and think this is just a “male toxic” issue, lets be clear there are alot of men in toxic relationships too and women are just as capable of sucking the life out of their man with the simplest things.
Sometimes it helps to recognize the signs for yourself before making the final decision to leave. The truth is no matter how much you tell your story, no one knows your relationship more than you do. With that said here are 4 signs you know your are in a toxic relationship.
1. You always find yourself wishing everyday could be like that one time on your birthday
Sometimes we get so wrapped up in a toxic relationship that we start to believe that our reality is normal. If he or she only makes you feel special on your birthday or on Christmas something is wrong. You shouldn’t just have great stories to tell about appreciation and love on the day you and Jesus got here.
2. You cant do anything right
You made the coffee too hot, you are annoying them when you watch television, you should be more like so and so’s man or so and so’s girl. Your partner should never put you down, make you second guess yourself in the simplest scenarios or question your slefworth. If that is happening to you, chances are you might be in a toxic relationship.
3. You aren’t allowed to grow or change
This is huge because typically in a toxic relationship one individual will feel as if they are superior to the other. They might think they are smarter, look better or stronger emotionally.
The person who is affected cannot show any signs of positive growth or improvement because that threatens the position of the other. What you should experience from your partner are feelings of pride rather than jealousy.
4. You are happier when they aren’t around
It is completely possible to love someone and not want to be around them because they make you feel sad. If you find yourself cringing when you have to go home then chances are you are in a toxic relationship.
