Say what you want about Kanye West’s Adidas collaboration show at New York Fashion Week, but all was not lost, we were happy about one thing, his models!
The women were very diverse, and if you talked to any of the models they spoke about how empowered they felt and how Kanye encouraged them to be in the moment and show that in their faces.
His pieces were a bit odd from the perspective of main stream media, social media and some of his fashion critics but his models loved them. We thought the thoughts of Devan Mayfeild who walked in West’s show were pretty interesting
Here is what she had to say in her interview with Business Insider:
“It felt like a dream to be working with fellow artists, creators, and revolutionaries. I was very inspired and carry the energy from those moments with me today,” she said “I was a part of Kanye’s army.”
“When I arrived for hair and makeup on the day of the show, he (Kanye) was already there,” she said. “Kanye was very involved.”
Mayfield said she loved wearing the clothing in the show, which made her feel both “sexy and comfortable.”
“The nude body suit felt like another layer of skin the way it was hugging my body,” she said “I felt empowered.”
“We were guided to remain present,” she said, adding that the expressions the models used were “natural and meditative.”
“You could see our souls on our faces,” she said.
We are not surprised that she did not have anything bad to say, why would she? This show was huge! Everyone was looking at it and everyone had something to say. If you were an aspiring model and had a chance to be in a show it would have been awesome to add to your body of work.
We expect that Kanye will have something just as intriguing next year and that he will allow models to be themselves and enjoy the moment as he did with this one.
