A video has surfaced showing a school officer physically assaulting a female high school student. It occurred at Spring Valley High School in Richland County.
The student was allegedly causing a ruckus in the class and the teacher wanted her out. When she refused, the teacher called the school officer, who ejected her from the class in the most inhuman way possible: he grabbed her arms while she was still seated and flipped her over, knocking down the desk.
He then grabbed hold of her pant leg and jacket and half-threw, half-dragged her to the front of the class. There he restrained her, pinning her arms to her back.
But the officer, Deputy Ben Fields, wasn’t done. Even though the class was shocked to silence by the officer’s brutality, a girl, Niya Kenny, spoke out against him and tried to help her classmate. The result? She was arrested for “disturbing the school”.
The video was shared with the hashtag “AssaultAtSpringValleyHigh”. It has caught enough attention that the local superintendent, Dr. Libby Roof, spoke out against the officer, who has now been suspended pending an investigation.
You should know, Fields has a track record of being a violent racist. In 2007, he pepper sprayed a black army veteran for playing loud music and parking next to him.
Fields arrested the man for breaching the peace, then arrested the man’s wife for trying to take photos of the incident. In 2013, he wrongfully accused a black high school student of assault and battery along with gang activity.
This is typical. First they say Black Lives Matter is prejudiced, then a black person gets assaulted when no other race would suffer the same thing.
White officers are having the time of their lives right now, what with assaulting black kids and killing them. Police are using unnecessary force frequently, and black youths are the major victims.
34-year-old Ben Fields is a racist, plain and simple. The fact that he was working in a school with predominantly black students–instead of rotting in jail for his previous misdemeanors–is just sad.
Teenagers are naturally rebellious, so when you’re stuck with a teenager who won’t listen to what you tell her, you call her parents or the principal. But Fields was just waiting for this opportunity to treat her like the worst kind of criminal, and he didn’t even care that he could cause serious injury.
This officer will get fired. But what he really deserves is prison: a lifelong prison sentence away from people to traumatize and assault.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s long past sick and tired of prejudiced white officers treating blacks like our lives are worthless and dignity is an afterthought.
