This was sad news, I mean is there no hope for the institution of marriage? Chris Rock and his wife filed for divorce last week and his soon to be ex-wife Malaak Compton-Rock released a statement about it on Sunday.

“After much contemplation and 19 years of marriage, Chris and I have decided to go our separate ways. Being fortunate enough to lead a life of service by working with those most vulnerable makes me well aware of life’s blessings, even when faced with difficulties.

While recognizing that this is a significant change, my children remain at the center of my life and their well-being is my top priority. It is in this spirit that I sincerely ask that their privacy and the privacy of our family be respected during this transition in our lives.”

According to the media this divorce has been a long time coming. The couple got married in 1996 and there was divorce speculation back in 2010. They defended their ‘happy marriage’ back then and seemingly moved on.

Looks like things couldn’t last beyond the next four years because they have called it quits for sure now. Maybe people in ‘Hollywood” should not get married, because unfortunately being in the public eye they are the ones people tend to use as examples for marriage, fidelity and all that jazz.

To be honest they are the worst examples. Of course this is not a shot at Chris’s situation because we have no idea what did it for them. We actually have no idea what causes any marriage to break up no matter what the media claims to know.

According to the Washington Post, Chris didn’t even like being married, because he often mentioned that in his stand-up:

It’s no secret: Chris Rock did not like being married.

Or, if he did, he sure didn’t sound like he did.

“Marriage is beautiful,” he said in 2004, seven years after he said “I do.” “But if you think you’re going to hold onto your individual self, you’re an idiot.”

We only hope the kids can get through it unscathed.
