I am team Cookie all day long, and I know Lee Daniels is loving the ratings he is getting from his new show. We are all here for it, the extreme portrayal of the music industry, Cookie’s loud mouth, the sneaky white wife, feuding brothers, the gorgeous gay character. All – of – it!
It is almost like reading a really good book for pure entertainment rather than trying to capture some deep rooted historical emotion.
Lately the blogs have been buzzing about the negative stereotypes that the show portrays, they think that Cookie’s character is ‘typical black woman’, loud, abrasive and flawed.
The Black women written by Daniels are always ripe with stereotypes.
Fat, loud and dark skin? Check.
The perfect light skin woman? Check.
The white-savior woman? Check.
Daniels has them all covered and nicely wrapped up into a show that is a ratings hit. ~Clutch
I agree with a couple of those observations, I find Cookie to be very loud, abrasive and deeply flawed, I also find her to be sexy, confident, tough and smart!
