Have you ever gone drugstore hunting for your foundation only to get home and find out the shade you purchased doesn’t match? Or maybe you just don’t want to deal with going to the counter at a nearby department store where they will try to get you to buy 10 additional items along with the foundation?
Well if you answered yes to any of these questions you may want to consider trying the Melange Beauty app which was recently launched earlier this month.
The app is designed to custom match your foundation shade based on an analysis of a selfie.
Ariel Zborowski, cofounder and CEO of the beauty and tech company Melange says, “We surveyed 1,000 women and found that one in three foundation wearers mix two or more products just to get the right color. We wanted to give women the perfect shade by using something they do everyday: take selfies.”
Melange, meaning “mixture”, is fitting because of the fact that women of color often need multiple shades to get our true match.
The process is really simple. You will first have to download the free app and request a free color card to be sent to your home. Once received, you will need to take a selfie with the card in any environment and select your desired coverage: sheer, medium or full. Then Melange will send 5 custom free samples to your home for you to try. Pick your favorite shade and you can purchase a bottle for $40.
As a woman of color it is typically hard to find a foundation that matches my skin perfectly. What I like about Melange is that it seems like they take undertones into consideration and offer a range of shades for everyone.
I think it’s a pretty neat concept and I will be trying it out. The good thing is if I don’t feel like the shades work for me I haven’t lost any money! Download the app today on both iOS or Android platforms.
