FKA Twigs and Robert Pattinson have recently come out publicly with their relationship. As some would celebrate love and openness, the couple hasn’t really been received with open arms by many white Pattinson fans.
It seems as if Twigs may be surprised at the open hate comments people are leaving on social media websites about their relationship, but this is all truly far from surprising. Twigs fired back at the comments on twitter by saying how surprised and disgusted at all the hatred people have shown and how there is no room or acceptance for racist people in the world.
Though we may want to say that America has come a long way, there are definitely many hidden and open issues that continue to plague this country. Twigs, a UK native, may not exactly be used to the treatment she is receiving but as for blacks living in America, it’s nothing new.
Social media websites have become a breeding ground for many racists, both black and white, to rant about reasons they hate each other. Most of the reasons are clearly stereotypes, such as all blacks are on welfare or all rich whites sniff cocaine. Most of the issues today are clearly in need of being addressed instead of being swept under a rug.
So how does this make America “the great” look to many foreigners. It’s obvious, it makes us look archaic, small, and hypocritical. We pride ourselves on being the pinnacle of great nations, but we have yet to conquer our own issues at home.
Sending our soldiers to fight wars against terrorists when we clearly have hate issues that plague our streets everyday. From the modern day white clans who run our police stations to the way African American kids bully many white kids in urban public schools. Racism is wrong, not matter which way it goes.
The open racism could be a tipping point for Americans. The buried issues coming out publicly forces these problems into the spotlight to be addressed. No longer can we ignore these obvious facts. It’s hurtful to think that we Americans can’t get past something as simple as race. Overall, it gives us a bad image.
