As a full time grad student, and part time intern, it seems as though there are never enough hours in the day, so coffee fills in the blanks.
I was waiting in a massively long line at my local coffee shop, contemplating if I wanted to get a double shot or triple shot of expresso, when this older gentleman interrupted my thoughts and sparked conversation.
People always tell me that my thoughts are always visible on my face, so maybe he could tell what I was thinking, because he started the convo with, “long day, huh?” And he was right, it had been a long day, and was no where close to being over. So I entertained the convo, and before I know it he was asking me about graduate school.
He said how he knows it can be expensive, and then said how beautiful I was, and proceeded to ask me if I wanted to earn some extra money, to help with school. At that point I was extremely dumbfounded. I mean, I live in New York City, and I’ve definitely heard about girls who have older men as sponsors to cover school, living costs, trips, or whatever, but I had never actually thought I would be approached with an offer, and I certainly wasn’t interested!
However, I can’t even lie, the thought of saying yes did cross my mind for a split second, but I couldn’t help but to think what would my friends think if they found out about this.
Also, not to mention, that this is New York City, and this guy could be one of those crazy people that kill young girls, like you hear about on Law and Order SVU. Again, he could read my thoughts by my face, because he rephrased the question and asked me again.
By that point I had a hold on my thoughts, and I immediately said no thanks, and walked up and ordered my coffee, and left. I still couldn’t believe that that had happened, and when I told my friends about it, they laughed and said that I should have taken him up on the offer, or at least see what he was talking about! Go figure.
