Even though NYC is one of the biggest cities in the world, it can feel extremely small at times, at least in the dating world. I’ve dated a few guys here and there since I’ve lived there but haven’t really taken anyone seriously.
One of my friends, Amber, is always meeting a new guy, so when she told me she wanted me to meet her newest boo, I didn’t really think anything of it. This time was different though because she said she thinks this one is “the one.”
She likes me because I am really good at reading people, and I’m very blunt. Usually when I can pre warn my friends about a guy and I’m almost always right.
She decided that we should meet up at a happy hour for a few after work drinks. Amber was really excited because she wanted me to meet him and I was excited too, she had been really happy the last couple of weeks.
Amber was there before me, and when I saw her sitting alone I was confused because I thought she would be there with Brian (the new boyfriend.) She informed me that Brian would be late, so we should just go ahead and order a few drinks.
After our second round, Brian eventually showed up. When he got there he apologized for being late, and then Amber introduced us. It was like one of those scenes in a movie when Brian and I made eye contact, because this wasn’t our first time meeting.
Luckily I work well under pressure, and so does Brian because we played it cool and introduced ourselves as if we were strangers. Amber excused herself to go to the bathroom, and that’s when I smacked Brian clear across his face.
I Couldn’t believe him! Brian has a finance, and she happens to be one of my friends as well. He told me to calm down and before I could get a word out Amber was back. Brian came up with some lame excuse about how he was called to the office and actually had to go in and take care of something.

He kissed Amber on the cheek and practically ran off. He must have known that I wasn’t going to say anything, because I didn’t. Amber immediately asked me what did I think, and all I said was that I thought he was hiding something and that something seemed off with him. Amber scowled and then ordered another round of drinks.
Thank goodness I didn’t have to be the one to break the news to Amber because soon Brian started acting really distant, and Amber told me that she thinks I was probably right about him, and she ended things. I was so relieved! I hated having to hide that from her, and still to this day I still haven’t said a word.
so what about the other friend? you say nothing and let her marry this bum?
Jerry, I am wondering about the same question however, from experience I know that no good deed goes unpunished. First, if the other friend is engaged, she will be in serious denial. To cover himself, I recall the fiance in a similar situation having told his woman that the friend had hit on him, insulating himself from her believing anything the friend would tell. Unfortunately women tend to believe their man over their friends, so it’s best to just shut your mouth and let her find out later on herself.
