I am no fashionista. Actually I excel at being very disinterested in fashion. That is until those times in the average year when our fave TV and film starlets come out in their Designer-Nobody’s-Never-Heard-Of gowns and flaunt their wares for the world to see. I know who asked me. I’ll tell you, it’s the media!!
Yes theres something about these events with all their false formality, posing and waving and that is distinctly carnival-parade like which makes all the dna strands in my body practically scream an opinion on what everyone is wearing. And yes, as I sit there in my ugly pajamas with mismatched socks, the catty woman in me is unleashed and suddenly I become a fashion aficianado. It’s fahbulous dahling!
Honestly, most of the gowns this year were stunning. Kerry Washington can do no wrong in my book and her orange Prada gown had me swooning. Also loving the color she’s got going on in her hair too.
OITNB’s Laverne Cox looked positively regal in a white Marc Bouwer gown… Where’s that add to cart button?
And Angela Basset was all demurity and class as always.
Now Girls star Lena Dunham’s frocky blouse combo on the other hand had me on the floor laughing. Like…. really? REALLY? I can’t.
Oh, Gabourey Sidibe, I have seen you pull of some lovely red carpet looks. I seem to recall a gorgeous blue number some time ago but girlfriend, you stylist did you wrong this time…..
Octavia Spencer’s Tadashi Shoji gown looks exactly like a pair of curtains we had a few years back. I loved those curtains, so I loved her gown too.
Am I the only one who was stunned to see a very feminine looking Samira Wiley in wearing yellow Christian Siriano? Boy, she sure does clean up good when she’s out of prison.
Teyonah Parris also in half yellow Christian Siriano (seems to be his signature color this season) didn’t rock my boat this time. She usually can do no wrong IMHO but I wasn’t feeling the way the dress seemed to cut her into half making her seem stockier. Ah well can’t win them all…
Here are more winners and losers (fashion wise) from the Emmys.
