By now you must have heard that Oprah owns part of the Weight Watchers franchise and is now sitting on their board of directors.
This is a major business move because not only did the stock skyrocket after Oprah inked the deal, she personally was able to turn her $48 million dollar investment into $75 million real quick. Like 24 hours quick!
One of the reasons this move was so amazing is the fact that Oprah’s diet struggle is the same struggle for many of us, we have watched her roller coaster ride with losing weight for years so why not monetize it!?
With that said Oprah wasn’t content with just going to the meetings on a Saturday mornings she decided if I’m going to do this, I am going to own it, literally.
She said this:
“Weight Watchers has given me the tools to begin to make the lasting shift that I and so many of us who are struggling with weight have longed for. I believe in the program so much I decided to invest in the company and partner in its evolution.”
So you want to know how to make $75 mill in a day, lets do the math. She paid $6.79 per share for 10% of the company which is $43.2 million.
Then the stock went up to $13.09 after the announcement that’s 105% and according to TIME reports Oprah made $75 million in 1 day. That’s not bad for someone’s portfolio if you ask me, of course she cannot sell the stock because she will immediately devalue the company. That’s ok though, just sit on it and watch it continue to grow!
