Jennifer Hudson recently sat down with Vogue to talk hair! Of course her new hair cut has sparked a ton of curiosity about why she did it. Who or what inspired her to cut her hair and why did she do it herself?
Vogue said she was reminiscent of a modern-day Josephine Baker and with a short hair cut all of the attention is on her “full lips”, “dramatic cheek bones” and “arched eyebrows”.
We cannot say we disagree, Josephine does have a similar luck minus the full lips of Hudson but who is counting details! Jennifer revealed her inspiration for the look:
her short-hair icon reference was in fact the great Grace Jones, the fashion and music legend who fiercely made an aerodynamic flat-top fade de rigueur in the seventies and eighties.
Giddily discussing her transformation, Hudson cited her recent move to New York City to star in Broadway’s The Color Purple this fall as the impetus for the change.
The individualistic style of her fellow Manhattanites inspired her to create a look that complemented her artistry, which she describes as “always changing.”
How she did it you ask?
Jennifer decided that this time she would do her hair herself, she got rid of the glam squad and really got intimate with her hair cutting it to perfection to fit her face.
On Instagram where she debuted the cut for the first time she said ” All black everythang! Who needs hair when u serving face!” She got a ton of love from her gram followers who absolutely love the cut and continue to compliment her on it to this day.
We are looking forward to Jennifer’s Broadway debut in the Color Purple, we know she will kill the stage because her voice is so amazing and her art added to something so classic is definitely something to look forward to.
