Should we be saying “congratulations, Perry” or “shame on you, Perry”? On Tyler Perry’s recent birthday party, he announced that he’s expecting his first child. The mother of the child is 28-year-old Ethiopian-born model and philanthropist Gelila Bekele.

Normally, we would be happy for someone who’s expecting a child. But here’s the thing: Tyler Perry isn’t anyone. Everyone knows him as a devout Christian, so getting a child out of wedlock (unless he married Bekele privately and doesn’t want to admit it to the public) is something of a big deal. So, here are three things the actor and director should expect as he’s expecting his first child:

1. Criticism from Christians. It’s well known that Christians value their… well, values. And in the Christian doctrine, having sex before marriage is a big no-no. Everyone knows Perry is a Christian, so he’s bound to receive criticism from his Christian fans. They will probably pressure him to marry Bekele, since the “damage” has already been done. Which brings us to the next point…

2. Pressure from Bekele. Unless she doesn’t care about public opinion (or about Perry’s wealth), Bekele is likely to try to get Perry to marry her.  And why wouldn’t she? She’s carrying his baby, and she needs stability. Because of Perry’s stance as a devout Christian, it’s unlikely he’s one of those “hit and run” men. The question is, will he?

3. Criticism of his films. Now that the 45-year-old is being seen in a less than favorable light, he should expect people to start criticizing his films. There are always people who wait for public opinion of a celebrity to turn sour so they can say stuff like, “I never liked his movies, anyway.”

This is one of the few instances where a man expecting a child draws mixed reactions instead of happiness and support. However, Tyler Perry isn’t the kind of man to bow down to criticism. Christians will forgive him and public opinion will swing back in his favor when everyone sees him holding his newborn baby. It’s just a matter of time. Oh, and go watch Gone Girl. Apparently, Perry kills it in the movie.
