As we close in on our Self Motivation series, it is important to review the topics we have covered so far. The first week we discussed how positivity impacts our lives. The determinant of how our day unfolds is in our control as we decide our reaction to the things that happen.
While being positive is just the basis, loving the person you are is what really propels you forward to leading a successful and fulfilling life. This week’s topic is helping others. You may be wondering, what in the world does self-motivation have to do with helping others? Honestly, the two couldn’t be any more related.
The little things count
Helping others may seem pretty self explanatory. Sure, big grand gestures of kindness never go unnoticed as you would see many celebrities when they donate to charities or use this platform to bring about some good in the world.
Yes, these are phenomenal things, but you do not always have to think on a big scale. People always say “the little things count”, and they are right.
whether you are helping a neighbor rake leaves or volunteering at an animal shelter, you will still get much appreciation.
It is better to give than to receive
While this saying is true, sometimes you have to learn how to take so the givers can feel good too. We all have that one friend who never asks for help (or that person may be you).
We know they need it, but they will not take it (unless presented as some miracle). “You can’t help someone who doesn’t want help”.
Even though your services may seem unwanted, believe me the gesture itself is appreciated. Sometimes the act of showing compassion through emotion rather than tangible goods is more powerful.
