Empire is, without a doubt, the biggest thing in television right now. The show became a breakout hit from the very first episode, when it received impressive viewership—13.95 million total viewers—as well as outstanding ratings—the highest ratings for any new show on FOX in 3 years.
It doesn’t stop there. Empire is also the first show in years to have an increasing viewership over the first five episodes. The last time a show performed this well was in 1991.
The ratings have also been on an upward trend since the premiere. Even critically acclaimed shows drop viewership and ratings after the pilot episode, so Empire is something special.
