3. Shonda Rhimes
As a screenwriter Shonda Rhimes shapes how we watch TV and her playground is one of the most diverse ones. She calls her TV Shows’ (Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal) world Shondaland.
A draft of an announcement for an event was sent to Shonda and it read: “the most powerful black female showrunner in Hollywood.” She crossed the words “black” and “female” and sent it back. During an interview with the Hollywood Reporter she explained:
“They wouldn’t say that someone is ‘the most powerful white male showrunner in Hollywood’.”
