Plenty of musicians and celebrities try hard to be unique, from Lady Gaga’s weird costumes to Lil Wayne’s body-covering tattoos. However, Erykah Badu is a cut above all of them. She doesn’t try to be unique; she just is. If you’re thinking “no”, check out these reasons and become a believer.
1. Erykah Badu can pull off any look
Erykah Badu pulls off styles that few would even consider. She’s done everything from a blond afro to a life-sized bun with a braided loop in front, an 80s-style high-top fade, a bald style and even a blond mohawk.
Oh, and there’s her classic look: natural hair made into locks and with blond tips. She manages to look elegant and sexy in most of her styles, and she’s brave enough to do what other celebrities would only dream of. In fact, her style is so appealing that it got her featured in Givenchy.
2. Erykah Badu sang for money
I know, I know. Don’t all musicians sing for money? Well, what makes this unique is Erykah went to Times Square and started singing to passing crowds, who mostly ignored her. She used lyrics like “Please, please give me your money, I don’t want no job,” and “Haven’t sold a record in about two years.”
This showed her sense of humor and adventure; very few known and respected musicians would do what she did. And she wasn’t making fun of homeless people, if that’s what you’re thinking. It’s just Erykah Badu being Erykah Badu.
3. Erykah Badu video bombed a live news report
There are celebrities who can prank, and those who can’t. Erykah is among the former. In fact, she seems to do it effortlessly, like the time she video bombed an ongoing news report. She passed by a reporter making a live report, and must have thought “What the hell”, because she made finger sex motions and even tried to kiss the reporter.
Erykah is the embodiment of a celebrity who is comfortable enough with herself to do things most celebrities would not even imagine. This, in my opinion, makes her the greatest celebrity alive.
