How to use your essential oils

The best way to use essential oils is to either wear them as a body mist (putting oils directly on your skin could cause burning and irritations because it is concentrated, so dilution is necessary) or for aromatherapy.

It’s recommended that you stay away from oil burners because they can be carcinogenic (since it is burning the oil and emitting toxic fumes). Instead, you should use a diffuser, which uses water vapor to transfer the aromas. This is safer, plus they have gorgeous designs that add to your decor.

Avoid consuming essential oils, unless they are placed inside of a cup of tea or water. Make sure to check the recommended dosage of the essential oils before using orally.

Blending together Essential Oils

If you’re going to use aromatherapy, you’ll need to place the blend of essential oils you wish to use inside of a diffuser.

Fill it with water, as per the instructions and use the recommended amount of drops. Just divide the total allowed amongst the essential oils you plan to use (so if you will be using 4 different oils and the max allowed is 20 drops, then you could use 5 drops for each or even it out in a different way).

It will take some experimenting to find a blend that you like, but here are three that you can start off with:

1. Frankincense, lavender, ylang ylang and jasmine.

2. Rosemary, lemongrass, grapefruit and lemon.

3. Lemongrass, geranium, cedarwood and sandalwood.

Bring the aromas home or to work

The beauty of essential oils is that they are portable. You can bring them with you to work if you need a bit of a boost at the desk. Just make sure that using a diffuser is allowed and won’t affect others.

Another option is to wear a necklace that diffuses the oils, wear the oils as a perfume or cologne or bring the vials with you and sniff your favorite ones throughout the day. Either way, feel free to test out different oils and blends to see which of them you like the best!
