We’ve all heard the wonderful benefits of sea salt and how we have to throw out our table salt ASAP. Although it’s true that sea salt is healthier than table salt, not all sea salt is created equal.

For starters, you will find that a lot of the sea salt sold in supermarkets today just carry the label, without the nutritional value.

There are a couple of brands out there that do sell real sea salt, like Redmond’s “Real Salt” product line. But this article isn’t going to go into the differences between sea salt brands. Instead, we’re going to focus on why you should be using a particular sea salt — Himalayan pink sea salt.

Why is Himalayan salt pink?

Most people aren’t accustomed to the idea of salt being pink. We’ve grown up with salt being white all our lives. This is why we easily adapted to mainstream sea salt, which also is white.

But the sea salt that you find in the Himalayas is pink, due to it being rich in various minerals and energy-rich iron content.

Why should I eat Himalayan Pink Salt?

Unlike with a lot of the salts on the market today, Himalayan pink salt has vitamins and 84 trace minerals and because it is naturally formed, the minerals within the sodium work together synergistically.

It is naturally iodine-rich, so it doesn’t need to be fortified with it (like with other salts in the store today).

What makes it even better is that when you eat it, you’re consuming less sodium per serving than table salt.

I Use This Product EVERY Week!

To my gyals, clay has cured my skin of years of acne proned skin, improved my complexion, acne scars and shrunk my pores. This is the best clay mask assortment pack to try all  my favorite kinds of clay + it's affordable.

Although the two are made up of the same components, pink salt has larger crystal structures compared to refined salt.

So in volume, there’s less sodium per 1/4 tsp due to the size of the crystals taking up less space than refined salt, which has tiny grains.

Himalayan Pink Salt is earth’s creation

Himalayan Pink Salt comes straight from the earth (ancient salt deposits to be exact), and is unmanipulated by man. It is made up of sodium chloride (85.62%) and a variety of other trace minerals (14.48%), including fluoride, borate, bicarbonate, calcium, strontium, bromide, magnesium and sulphate. This is why you find all of this inside of the pink salt.

Why is table salt unhealthy

If you’re not already on board with sea salt, then you may be wondering what makes it so different than table salt.

First of all, commercial salts are refined, which means all of its minerals have been stripped away, except for chloride and sodium. And it doesn’t stop there — they also chemically clean the salt, bleach it and heat it up at very high temperatures, further killing whatever nutrients was once in there.

It is then treated with agents that keep it from caking up, so that it doesn’t mix with the water inside of the container it’s in.

Unfortunately, these agents also prevent the salt from properly dissolving in our bodies, which is why it builds up in our tissues and organs, causing major medical conditions.

Lastly, it has iodine artificially added, and is typically a synthetic version of it, which also isn’t properly processed within our bodies. In the U.S., the law allows up to 2% of table salt to be used as additives in products — yikes!

Adding Himalayan Pink Salt to your life

There is more than one way you can use pink salt to your benefit. It can be used as a replacement for table salt and sea salt in your meals, added to your body scrubs for a detoxifying and skin smoothing effect, or you can add it to your bathtub and soak in it. Whatever you decide to use it for, your body will love you for it!
